This is a teaching resource video which demonstrates some of the differences in physical properties and molecular structure of macronutrients and their polymer and monomer forms such as proteins and amino acids, carbohydrates glucose and starch as well as lipids such as stearic acid, and fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas such as methane and butane also petroleum or crude oil which contains molecules such as octane. I demonstrate their physical properties by trying to set the bastards on fire. Also showing that they are mostly carbon and oxygen with some exceptions. This is ideal for teaching year 9 high school students who learn this stuff in core science text book 3.

  • Part of the problem in lighting any of those macro-nutrients is the lack of aeration. Now I don't know if that would be enough for a protein, but you can get a good flamethrower effect from flour. This is a major concern in grain silos.
