It works by rotating the image based on the horizon line you give it. It then calculates the largest image it can make with 4 straight edges and crops off the rest.
Imagine you had a real photo in front of you and you rotated that so the horizon was straight. That works fine BUT you can't fit it in a frame due BECAUSE of the angle you just created, so you'd have to trim it back to being a rectangle from this new position.
It's not a massive feature really, just a time-saver.
