AIRBUS FAMILY

Airbus company produces around half of the world's jet airliners, with the establishment of a simplified joint stock company in 2001, owned by EADS (80%) and BAE Systems (20%).

Airbus employs around 57,000 people at sixteen sites in four European Union countries: Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Spain. Final assembly production is at Toulouse (France), Hamburg (Germany), Seville (Spain) and, since 2009, Tianjin (China). Airbus has subsidiaries in the United States, Japan, China and India.

The company is known for producing and marketing the first commercially viable fly-by-wire airliner and the world's largest airliner, the A380.

In terms of orders, Airbus also maintained its lead, with 370 new firm orders valued at USD 34 billion, and representing 57 per cent of the market in terms of units. Over the year Airbus registered only four cancellations, which do not impact the market share. These results compare to 284 new firm gross orders in 2003.

First entering airline service in 1983, the A310 carries 220 passengers up to 5,200nm/9,600km. The A300-600, which entered airline service in 1984, typically transports 266 passengers up to 4,150nm/7,700km. An A300-600 freighter version, capable of carrying up to 54.5 tonnes (120,000lbs) of cargo, entered service in 1994 and has since become the single best-selling production freighter type ever in its category.

Entering service in early 1994, the largest member of the A 320 Family, the A321, has a range of up to 5,600km/3,000nm. With an unmatched operating cost per seat it typically carries some 185 passengers in two classes, though it can seat up to 220 passengers for charter and low-cost operators.

The twin-engine A319, A320 and A321 can be powered by either CFM International CFM56 or International Aero Engines V2500 engines, while the A318 is offered with CFM56 engines or Pratt & Whitney PW6000A engines. With the integration of its first A318 into its fleet, Air France is the first ever airline to operate the complete Airbus A320 Family.

Enjoying an extraordinarily low operating cost per seat, the A330-300 typically accommodates 335 passengers in two classes or 295 travellers in three classes. Launched in early 1994, it has a range of up to 10,500km/5,600nm giving it excellent flexibility for a wide range of route structures.

The A330 and A350 will also share some of the most comfortable long-range cabins in the sky, featuring high levels of amenity for both
passengers and crew. Among these will be the latest generation In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) systems while cabin services will be controlled
through the unique Airbus Cabin Intercommunication Data System (CIDS).

Combining the very latest technologies for materials, systems and industrial processes, the A380 meets the most stringent international certification requirements. It can carry 35 per cent more passengers than its closest rival and with far more floor space available, the A380 enables airlines to deliver unparalleled comfort in every class and more open space for passengers to stretch their legs.

The A380 Family starts from a baseline passenger aircraft with a capacity of 555 passengers in three classes, and a range of up to 15,000 km./8,000 nm. The freighter version, the A380F, will carry a payload of 150 tonnes (330,000 lbs) over 10,400 km./5,600nm. Stretched, shorter and extended range variants of the baseline version will become available as and when the market requires them. The A380 can be powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines or GP7200 engines from the Engine Alliance (a General Electric and Pratt & Whitney joint venture).

While offering all the advantages of a completely new design, the A380 will extend the benefits of Airbus family operational commonality to the very large aircraft sector. Thanks to the same cockpit layout, procedures and handling characteristics, pilots will be able to make the transition to the A380 from other Airbus fly-by-wire aircraft with minimal additional training.

  • Boeing has rewrote the book on airliner efficiency, the 787 and 747-8 will both move passengers and cargo through the air 16-18% cheaper than Airbus. And airbus has already opted to copy Boeings new raked and more sweptback wing design on the A350, So the A350 will not look like the the one in the above video instead it will look more like a Boeing
