  • I think it's cool when one gets to hear many different version of the same song. I have heard this song by a few different people. I love the chesty quality of the alto here. She gives a rich contrast to the light executing soprano in the piece. I sometimes sing a made up middle line to add harmonies to it when I listen to this at home.

  • @pianomags You are right, it IS written for two sopranos but it's more or less a financial question why the least promoters cannot engage 2 sopranos, 1 alto, 1 tenor, 1 baritone and 1 bass (as it is meant by Bach). Most of the times there are only 4 soloists and then you have to compromise.

  • @Himmelsfunken and have I a different edition, or is the Chrite not written as a duet for Sop 1 & Sop 2. not alto? But all the versions on here get the alto to double-up and sing sop 2 as well. Shame, asI'd love to hear a version with 2 sops.

  • @angietihi

I agree with the soprano but the alto is far too heavy for my taste...
