I couldn't find a video on the Internet anywhere showing how to take HP's SimpleSave Desktop Hard Drive apart so you can use it as a bare-bones SATA drive. This is a video of exactly that, and should get rid of that nasty VirtualCD partition that runs the HP software automatically.

  • i wish this guy did more vids

  • @ourex117 what specifically would you like me to make?

  • lol @ backing up data. i've ran raid 0 for as long as mankind existence and never lost a single bit or byte. even the drive in my rents pc which is sata 1, still alive and well. all u need to do is give it proper cooling lol even when i pirate a crap load of games and movies, i've never lost a single byte to it. u just gotta know where to download. these companies r making profit like it grows on trees.

  • @00unknownmember00 good to hear none of your hard drives have ever had mechanical failure :D keeping the heat down and proper ventilation does indeed help lengthen the life of a drive, but failure can and does still occur.Example: Hitachi Deskstar 500GB 3.5" Sata 6gb/s hard drive I purchased dies only 3 months after use, and I had it in a Oversized case with plenty of fans.

Regardless of you storage method, your safest bet is to have a backup of anything important; like family photos or work.

  • Stupid question, but can i use like a normal hard drive i.e drag and drop?

  • @MegaHawkful Yes, it just shows up as another hard drive in Computer. Drag and drop or backing up with other apps will work!

  • @eriksnow3 anything tech related, i just love your personality :D

  • I just paid 85 for this which is expensive because of the floods.

  • this video could have been 3 minutes if you didn't talk so much!! but otherwise thank-you very helpful. Quick tip, as this took me a few minutes to figure out, if it's not showing up in My Computer, you'll need to partition it in Disk Manager.

  • @eriksnow3 This is really cool: I picked up a $100 HP portable drive on sale, i'm 80% pretty sure it contains a WD scorpio blue hard drive inside and yet they are selling the same hard drive on ebay for $300 (no joke) and people are actually paying for them WTH! So if anyone is reading this and planing on upgrading a internal hard drive, the cheapest way to go is to get a USB powered drive for laptop, rip it out of it's case and stick it in, save yourself $200, too easy!
