So the current theory goes. The truth is, all fossilized casts of the remains of deinonychus that have been excavated show no traces of feathers. The only real "evidence" - and I use the term loosely - that allegedly supports the theory is that deinonychus is also a dromaeosaurid, and thus 'should' also have feathers, like velociraptor, which did. Sadly, until actual feather traces are found, there exists no empirical evidence, and so the theory is, put blankly, only theoretical.
