HMV master ORA 3635-2, rec. Berlin, February 1939.
Rudi Schuricke (tenor [lead]), Karl Golgowski (tenor), Horst Rosenberg (Baritone).
Although this group never performed live, their numerous recordings got them a strong following and became the basis for future careers: Schuricke became one of Germany's most beloved crooners, whereas Rosenberg later was a much respected classical lieder singer. Golgowski led his own quartet in the 50s.
The "Goldene Sieben" [Golden Seven] was a studio band of top musicians, founded with the support of Goebbels in 1934 as an effort to prevent the German youth from listening to foreign bands. However the music of the seven, who soon became an orchestra, proved to hot for the regime's taste. The popularity of the band was such that even a radio ban was partly ignored, and the band still recorded during the war. Many members of the orchestra later became successful band leaders themselves, among them Kurt Hohenberger, Willy Berking, Franz Thon, Eddie Brunner and Freddie Brocksieper.
