Brendon Chase is a children's novel by Denys Watkins-Pitchford, writing as "BB". It was published in 1944, but is set at an earlier, unspecified date. It was later made into a 13-part TV serial (described as being set in 1925), adapted by James Andrew Hall, produced by Southern Television in association with RM Productions and Primetime Television in 1980, and shown on ITV in the United Kingdom from December 31, 1980 to March 25, 1981 (other than in Wales where HTV Wales transmitted it between April and July 1981, after it had been displaced by Welsh-language programmes before the inception of S4C). The series was also shown in many other European countries, including Germany, The Netherlands, Sweden and Norway. In the United States it aired on HBO.

'Brendon Chase' ran for 13 episodes between December 1980 and March 1981. It was a typical example of the high quality and high output of children's drama that commercial television excelled in for many years.

  • You are amazing! I used to absolutely love this program when i was 8 years old and have often tried to find it online but hardly found anything on it. about the most i ever found was the theme tune on here(youtube) and a book on amazon. I cannot believe I am actually going to watch it again, will be amazing to see it and compare to how i remember it.

  • Thank you for making this available.Yes, it brings back memories I enjoyed seeing it again.

I first read 'BB's book 60 years ago and I never foregot it.

I exchanged letters with the author Denys Watkins-Pitchford.

This TV version is set in the wrong time and is somewhat altered.

Dramatised and sanitised for a more politically correct audience.

    Please read the book !

PS does anyone have a better video copy please.

Loved this show as a child and yes it also made me want to run away and live in a tree :D Managed to get a copy of the entire series through a forum. Now all i have to do is find the Holy Grail of childrens television..The Enchanted Castle by E.Nesbit. Nice one for uploading, you've made a lot of middle-aged people feel older than they should ;D

  • Adored this. As did my wife. But we didn't know each other then ho ho. Thanks for posting, fantastic stuff.

  • I have been searching for this for many many years. I don't understand why this has never been for sale on dvd. Thanks from the Netherlands!!

  • @chrisqc32 I applaud you for sharing this extremely rare piece of children's TV history, remember seeing this as a child and was hooked, i never forgot the show but i did forget the name of this great show, so i did my research and found a old magazine for sale on Ebay, the mag was called Look In and on the front cover was the three lads with there skins on, hey presto and now my search ends here, thank you so much for uploading this show.

  • So very many thanks for uploading this series! :) I watched it as a youngster in 1984 when it was aired during the swedish childrens summer morning show. Dare I say one dreamt of wandering away into a wild forest to experience nature at the very fullest after watching Brendon Chase? To this very day I can still re-call the opening title (the flute music) at any time, meaning: the music is simply haunting! Thanks again to you! Cheers.

  • @chrisqc32 thanks for your effort! It was also on tv in Netherlands I think in 1983. Loved it alot! Some series are so good to see again.
