Ah the heady days when Marks and Spencer tried to be a bit classy instead of marketing to X Factor viewers.

This was the first advert in this series that M&S did and i remember seeing for the first time at work and the whole room was drawn to it and could'nt stop watching - then M&S do it right they do it very right

Harry is right: you can hear that it's influenced directly by Virginia Plain. Those piano chords and the singer's Ferryesque delivery especially the "cham-paeeeeegne" bit!

Tx for Marks and Spencer to choose one of the best songs of all time (It is, but only in this Sailor-Original-Version): SAILOR ~ A Glass Of Champagne ! :)

Oh my God!, they all look SO glamorous!!! I wish I had the jacket Twiggy's wearing on 00.38-00.39! :D
Sailor's drummer, Grant Serpell, explained once in an interview that the song was inspired by Roxy Music's Virginia Plain. Sailor's lead singer and song writer, Georg Kajanus, was hugely impressed by the Roxy Music song.
I like the vocal line and the strange European vowel sounds (to an English-speaker). The sound of the band is strangely modern, the 2 keyboards, plus synths, it reminds me of some 80's Depeche Mode.
