herman played athletic sports, including baseball and golf and basketball, whereas grandpa liked playing checkers with an unseen opponent. what a difference!!

it's a great clip, and a great tv show, and yet i not understand how eddie was able to see where the ball landed when it was so far away, at 1:32. i recall no other episode featuring eddie's extraordinary eyesight. i think eddie should have had binocular glasses in front of his eyes when he said where the ball was.

Fred Gwynne was pure genius..... a really overlooked actor. My favorite episodes were the sports themed ones...Herman The Baseball Player, Herman The Basketball Player, The Punter and this one.

I always loved it when Herman cracked a joke and Eddy would just stand there looking at him...and the Herman's face would drop and he says ' that was a joke Eddy '. Classic.
