After over a decade in the restaurant supply business I've never seen any professional spoon stuff into a measuring cup. I'm not saying don't do it. I'm just saying the greatest pastry chefs in the business don't do it. So if you want to emulate the best do as they do.

I keep several measuring cups available when I am baking or cooking. I didn't realize until watching this, that you should not use the measuring cups with the spout to measure dry ingredients. So, when a recipe calls for 3 or 4 cups of flour, you should use those single measuring cups and just do it a cup at a time? I used the others just for that reason, to get it in all at once.

@mollytigger Using the smaller solid measure cups will be more accurate. If your baking is not turning out right sometimes it's because you're putting too much of a certain thing in. If your current method works just fine than there is no real reason to change it. Thanks for watching and commenting. Peace!

When measuring flour, it is best to spoon the flour into the measuring cup. If you dip the cup in the flour, you can get up to 3 Tablespoons more flour per Cup.

How? One cup is one cup. It's not like you're packing the stuff down. Besides if the person who wrote the recipe scooped theirs from a container then our measurements would match.
I've never seen anyone amateur to pro spoon flour into a measuring cup. As long as you level off you get one cup. I'm not saying it's wrong to do it. Just slow and needless.
Then add two girls and you've got something!

1 cup is about 5 ounces. That is if you use the dip-and-sweep method. If you use spoon, it can contain 20% less flour. I think it's because when you spoon, you are aerating air into your flour.

Since scooping is the worldwide method I'd say you're best off to scoop. Logic being that the person who wrote the recipe also scooped it too. If you've got video of a pro spooning flour into the cup I'd love to see it.
