Simulating Climate Hope: Andrew Jones of the Sustainability Institute at http://sustainer.org uses a simulation he and others created to tell a story of hope and possibility for addressing climate change, using an approach developed at MIT.

The interactive simulator, C-ROADS, has been scientifically reviewed, is being used by the U.S. State Department, and is available on the web at http://climateinteractive.org .

  • Meh. Sounds too tidy by half.

Hope he's right. But I tend to think Chris Hedges has the more convincing read on things when he said in an Oct 18 column (referencing Derrick Jensen) that the problem is industrial capitalism...and I'm just not seeing the political 'harnessability' or even the political will to SERIOUSLY fight that fight, least of all in the developed and BRIC countries.

What ails us goes far deeper than Jones suggests.

  • Somebody give this guy a fat grant and a bigger stage!

  • Great video!

  • Drew Jones is a climate change rock star!!

  • Absolutely Brilliant! I needed to hear this! Yes to capping emissions, yes to saving the planet. But I do think we need more Theremins! =) Seriously, this is Nobel Peace Prize material!

  • We Can Do This

  • I liked the way drew out the numbers, and showed how we might contain dangerous climate change if we just summoned the will.

In doing so, helped overcome a problem. We can't summon the will, if we don't have a gameplan. I think this video goes well with Transition Town videos by Rob Hopkins.

  • Thanks, GDrew! it was great fun to edit. Drew helped, which made it even more fun. Cheers. -db
