We know that. After the epsiode... ;) Kalas didn't know that at the beginning when he started his masterplan and nobody was even sure Methos was for real. Also, saying that in all his 5000 years Methos rarely fought is presoumptious (he was one of the horseman after all). He himself talked about the fire of youth that he now lacks to win.. Which means he once had it. And therefore he himself (and the creators of the show as well) confirms it is not just about the quickenings.

@bobbygoo9 Not in the flash backs he does not. Watch the flash backs Mac almost loses his head in the opera house when he cuts Kalas throat. In the final fight and when Kalas had thought Mac to Methos head Kalas was backing up more. I am talking all the past fights and in both Opera house fights Mac was running. He had to fall from the balcony to survive one situation too.

I love how when I first met Methos, he comes off as just a guy with headphones and beer, then he says "You cannot help me highlander." and I could almost feel the 5,000 immortal buzz myself. Peter Wingfield is awesome!!

Methos is one of the BEST characters ever written in fantasy...or any genre for that matter. The writers may have intended to kill him at the end of the episode, but I'm so glad they didn't. They saw the possibilities in his 5000+ year life and went with it.

He would have been amazing in his own show. The flashbacks are always so much fun to me!

@Backfromthedeadguy I think it was a lot of his character shining through that did the trick :). I'm just sorry they didn't take more care with the whole franchise. It was good - and actually great at frequent intervals - but it could have been even greater with a bit more care.
