January 16, 2010....The 45th edition of the Hocking Hills Winter Hike, held annually on the third Saturday in January, attracted what's certain to have been one of the largest turnouts ever. The parking lots were filled, and at times the line to enter the trail to Old Man's Cave stretched back almost to the Visitors Center. But as you walked the trail and marveled at the natural winter artwork along the way, it was unusual to hear any discouraging words. I'd comfortably estimate over 4,000, based on the fact that I was "clicked" at hiker number 3,559 when I entered the trail....and folks entered the 6-mile hike via other points. (official number released later was closer to 6,000) At 11am, the traditional end time for the hike, visitors were still lined up at the main entry across from the parking lot at Old Man's Cave....wow, indeed. ©copyright 2010, Doug Parker - ikarensell Enterprises Inc., all rights reserved
