@Cort086 There was no English dub until like 20 years later with the release of the special edition DVD, which came with all three episodes of the OVA in both English and Japanese as selectable languages.

I love the way area 88 was drawn out every sketch was awesome and simply majestic , i really didnt like the Re edited newer version with the CGI which was ...... yeah... low standard but the old anime of Area 88 was awesome

@MegaEvilToaster , that's a good point, although it seems unlikely that the Migs would be using all-aspect IR seekers. Anyways, I'm nitpicking what is, after all, gorgeous animation of what are now classic warplanes (Mirage, Tomcat, even the Tigershark, etc.) in fictional action and it's not like I'm a pilot or anything!

@helbent4 Not if they put their engines on low power. Also, reversing course would be an evasive manuver, especially with flares

In Vietnam, Sparrow accuracy and reliability was so low US planes would salvo 4 at a time to due to the low (10% kill) accuracy. Sparrows did improve but these mercenaries could be using old surplus. Firing Sparrows and then reversing course would break lock-on and cause all the Sparrows to miss. Also, expose their hot tailpipes to the primitive IR guided missiles the Fishbeds would carry.
