After installing the new Fedora 16 Linux distro, which came out on Nov 8th, on my gaming box, I decided to make a quick comparison with the boot time of Windows 7, which I have installed in parallel (dual boot).
Both are clean, uncluttered systems.

  • How about a tripod for your next video??

  • @tchmotors well, i got a tripod, but unfortunately i can't attach my smartphone to it. :)

  • @2ndGVendetta note that this is a video about boot time not usability. but yes, you're right in some way. where linux fails windows wins.

  • @lanman132 And where Windows fails, Linux wins. The way I see it, the 'best' OS is whichever does what you need it to with the least hassle. Thus, for me, Linux is the better OS.

  • @Kelvari7882 sorry i did'nt want to express any tendency to either side, if it sounds like that. you choose the os that best fits to your needs. yes, i agree to that point. for me, linux is my favorite os when i write texts, create spreadsheets, listen to music and develop software. windows is good to play games, make movies and so forth. i like both.

  • it's ok, but you should include or at least mention, that windows 7 complete start-up is only finished when you login, because some of the drivers start after the login. Linux systems ARE faster than windows but still, start-up is not the best thing to compare here, but great vid, thumbs up.

  • I would be very interested in seeing a second comparison, that is, the login-to-fully-loaded-and-usable-desktop-environment on both.

  • It'd be nice to know how your partitions are set up as well because where the data is stored can affect how fast it can be read when you're dealing with rotational media.

  • If you add "vga=0x318" to the grub2's command line you can see the Fedora splash screen

instead of just the bar running across the bottom. :-)

  • dude u usualy they use aboat 1,5 to 2,5 gigs of ram when log in win 7 user, fedora has aboat 0,35 up to 0,5 gigs of ram (thats a clean bootup only win and linux out of the box program options)

  • I am from Russia. the author really believes that loading up a login and password is the total load on the system? window and then another five minutes to the desktop and the network set up .... funny

  • A few years ago I wiped my Windows box and replaced the OS with a GNU/Linux distribution. After having experienced the freedom, the power, the speed and reliability that came along with GNU/Linux, there is just no way I could ever see myself going back to Windows. I don't miss it even a little bit. There is absolutely nothing that could make me tolerate all the EULA's, surfing the web for programs, not being able to update everything at once, all the viruses and malware, etc... No, thank you.

  • Windows is buggy, and don't have many resources, that is why apple is bigger than microsoft. Everyone agrees that any linux is better than mac os or windows, that is why 70% of all computers conected to internet runs Linux! Linux for the win!

  • @2ndGVendetta Apparently, your spelling fails, so your argument is invalid.
