Alfred Deller sings this traditional English song magnificently. Like the song's protagonist I am also from the north country, so I thought I would add some images in celebration of our wonderful countryside.
I usually run a mile from classical treatments of folksongs, shorn of their rough edges, dissonances and dangerous harmonies; where the smell of lavender takes over from the pungent aromas of soil, sawdust and beer. But for once I'm completely charmed by this version of the song.
My parents had the LP too! Fantastic! Such a voice! Love it!
