This is an introduction to our forthcoming film about nature's essential role in three phases of childhood: toddlers, middle childhood and adolescence. Today nature deficit disorder threatens the health and well-being of our children. MOTHER NATURES CHILD addresses this threat and explores the benefits of time in nature. We are seeking completion funding in order to release the film by mid 2010. Please visit us on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mother-Natures-Child/184158708677

I am currently training to be a personal trainer, then going back to school to study to be a high school gym teacher. My biggest goal is to be able to do things like this. I want to make P.E. healthy and fun instead of dreadful and with nothing of substance that kids will take from the class. The Nature Principle is currently my guiding star.

In my new books about early childhood literacy, HandMade Marks and Saving Literacy, I, too, emphasize the importance of physical exploration, especially with scribbles and drawing, but including play in the natural world.
I support this movie whole heartedly... children's physical and mental health depend upon healthy exploration, interaction, meaning-making, challenging physical adventures. My approach is through scribbling and drawing.... yours is through the natural world. Susan R. Sheridan
