@skyliner1941 That was bugging me too. I don't think it's the keyboardist's fault, though; it's the sound guy. He had the mic by the keyboard way too high, and everyone else's too low. They're doo wop! Where was the sound from the vocal mics? It's just mixed very poorly.

Gene and the guys sound great as usual. One of the greats who in my opinion successfully bridged the gap between Doo-Wop & Soul. All of that said, I hope the damn organ/keyboard player was fired after this performance. Not only was he way too loud, his playing was sloppy as hell. I found it distracting on both this video and Gene's beautiful Solo of "Here I Am." Their talents however allow me to look past the organ nonsense. Thanks for another great post Joe!
I appreciate your posting the video. I vaguely recall some of this music (being maybe 8 years or so when it was popular) but I really love it. It's so great to have YouTube. The radio stations seem to have the idea that rock and roll started with the Beatles, which of course is far from true. Thanks again for posting it. The voices are great, despite the intrusion of the keyboard.

You're welcome! Yes, public radio has abandoned the pre-Beatle era. You can hear doo-wop on specialized Internet stations like the Doowop Cafe, where I am DJ BRAD.

The sound man needed some training

You won't get any argument from me on the sound being bad. It seems much worse on the video than it did the night of the concert. There were a couple times when the organ was drowning out the vocals, but for the most part did not seem that bad live. When I watched the video, I immediately noticed it and thought about not even posting it, but decided to do so, anyhow.

That is Casey Spencer, who joined the Jive Five in 1962 and wrote some of their songs.
