Third University Project. It was suggested that we shoot a scene from an existing movie. Since we're in the UK, in the middle of winter, we decided that the best film to shoot a scene from would be Predator (well it seemed like a good idea at the time!).

Bad weather caused us to bin the original shooting day and reschedule. Unfortunately due to having to reschedule mid week, we lost all bar one member of our cast, and most of our transport, this caused a location change as well.

Due to the lack of available folks all of the crew then had to double in as actors. Due to the lack of dedicated crew the shoot had to be extended over 2 days.

At the end of the second shooting day, we thought our troubles were behind us. That's when we discovered that the camera we'd had for the first shooting day had a technical fault. Some of the video and all of the audio from the first day was corrupted.

Our solution was a little novel, and not entirely sensible. But after some serious hours in the editing suite, a lot of swearing, and some low down animal cunning we had a finished film, which is frankly (unintentionally) hilarious.

Ah well, laughs are better than groans, and at least the SFX played out.

  • Good but you're saying Predator was in Nam? It took place (and was filmed) in Central America actually, not Vietnam.

  • @AmazingTangy I wasn't saying predator was in Nam... Although re-reading my post I can see how you came to that conclusion. So I'll clarify my previous point, Billy's gun isn't a hunting rifle, regardless it'd still be rubbish in a jungle. Obviously, the film is set in the fictional country of Val Verde, and was shot in Mexico.

  • ...uhhh im sorry...what are boonies?

  • @avpkid345 If you type 'boonies' into google, then hit the 'search' button, the very first result returned will answer your question far more succinctly than this reply.

  • hmm....not very hard to copy a film frame by frame. this is hardly your own work, but nice fan homage.

  • Actually producing a film like this is technically quite difficult. Furthermore, and somewhat ironically, it isn't actually a shot by shot remake, as there are substancial differences between this version and the original. That said we make no claims to originality, and credit the original director, writers and performers. I'll agree with you about the fan homage though ;)

  • Not a bad effort. Great predator effects and Hawkins not Mawkins kill scene. Dubbing could of been much better on actors though. You should have hired me,I know word for word., good efforts though. Amusing

  • As you can probably appreciate, we had to use what he had to hand for the film, but historically you've got a point, and since the American army phased out the M14 as their main battle rifle, during the Vietnam conflict replacing it with the M16 they would probably agree with you.

The other guns however are Styer AUG's (not halo battle rifles). Since the Australian Army uses them as their standard assualt rifle, one has to assume they perform adequatly in Australia's Jungles.

  • @avpkid345 .....boonies...are BBQ and "soul" food?

  • The guy who is playing Billy or Billie looks like Fred haha
