A slide blues inspired by Texan bluesmen Blind Lemon Jefferson and Texas Alexander.

I always loved the phrase : "when the blues come to Texas, loping like a mule"
There's a story about Blind Lemon Jefferson and two white men who offered him $20 (a great deal of money in the 20ies) to play the song 'Blues Come To Texas Loping Linke A Mule"; Lemon declined the offer saying : "I don't play the blues on a sunday....."
Lemon never recorded a song with that title but used the phrase in his 1926 recording called "Got The Blues"

Open D tuning DADF#AD

I'm playing a 1927 Stella guitar with a pearloid fretboard. It is not maple as some people think but "MOT" aka Mother Of Toiletseat". This kind of plastic was very popular for toiletseats in the 20ies, hence the name.

  • Wonderful as usual. Is that all mother of pearl on the neck?

  • @leoamae no, it's plastic, see vid description for more

  • Great stuff, is this your own song then?

  • @wehappyfewmusic

    thanks

well, you decide after knowing the following....the lyrics have been used by Blind Lemon Jefferson; I made up a guitar part that follows, as much as possible, the vocal line. Some of the guitarriffs are derived from the playing of Ramblin' Thomas and Robert Nighthawk. The vocal phrasing is inspired by the singing of Texas Alexander. Do a search here on youtube with these names and you'll see what I mean :-)
