This is "Ivan" my young Ophisaurus apodus (Scheltopusik, European legless lizard, European glass lizard, giant legless lizard).
He is 2 years old and 55cm long. He can grow up to 1,2 - 1,4 meters. He loves to pick up some crickets, mealworms, earthworms, snails from the tweezer or my hand.
Adult Scheltopusiks can hunt and eat small birds, eggs, mices, young snakes and other reptiles.
The life span can up to 50 years in captivity.

  • @Freckfart90: They aren't dangerous. Yeah, they can bite, but they are not poisonous (no snake). Some are a bit aggressive when they are hungry, but they become tame very quickly. I have no information about keeping in australia. Wild Scheltopusiks are under nature conservation and they're protected.

  • @powderpuff31: Now this "cute guy" is more than a meter long and he eats 4-5 young mice in a week. He's a "wanna-be Snake"!

  • @schlectokeeper

Thanks a bunch man, I just got my first job (I'm 15) at a pet store and my first task was to feed and entertain the young pythons that just god delivered. And they are the cutest things ever. the smallest one we have is a baby red carpet python (not sure what breed but it was red) and it is only 16cm long and 2.35cm wide. I'll have to ask my manager about your young friends.

    Thanks anyway.

  • I've heard both that they are very tame and quite dangerous PLEAZE give me a final answer from someone who knows what they are talking about. Thanks ps can you get them in Australia if so what license is needed?
