~The Ruby Slippers~ on display at the Smithsonian Museum of American History in Washington DC.

Sixteen-year-old Judy Garland wore these sequined shoes as Dorothy Gale in the 1939 film classic The Wizard of Oz. In the original book by L. Frank Baum, Dorothy's magic slippers are silver. For the technicolor movie, they were changed to ruby red to show up more vividly against the yellow-brick road. One of several pairs used during filming, the size-five shoes have felt soles, suggesting they were used for dance sequences.

~Sorry the picture quality isn't that great. I took this video with my digital camera and the lighting in the museum is dim to preserve the color of the Ruby Slippers.

  • Absolutely beautiful :) The Ruby Slippers never fail to amaze me :) And I love the music you used - Where can I download/purchase this version from? I really want it!!! Or who did this version?

  • @ajxi23 Actually, they clean it. I saw it in a vid at the Smithsonian. There's a netting under it that made it sparkle. And when I went there, they had black cushons in the inside of the shoe...
