Aisha Khalid, Urdu VOA News, Washington

British author, journalist, researcher and policy analyst, Anatol Lieven does not agree with the notion that Pakistan is a basket case but he does not see much hope for a modern Pakistan either. In the five hundred pages of his new book; Pakistan: A Hard Country, Anatol has given a candid analysis of his observations of how Pakistan works. This is a report based on professor Lieven's interview with VOA in which he elaborates on what he has mentioned in his book as the main cause of most of the problems faced by Pakistani society right now. According to him the strong kinship groups and patronage networks give Pakistan a remarkable degree of stability. Yet unfortunately these very same forces hinder or even stop its development.*__*
