Olivier Coipel, the celebrated French comic artist of the New Avengers House of M, and the Legion of Super-Heroes, flew in for the NY Comic Con. He discusses his passion for drawing Thor, a new Marvel series that will be launched in July 2007, with writer J. Michael Straczynski. • @gurtygee About 20 years or more ago the American comic book industry was dominated mostly by white males. Now a days its different.

  • @brettsd71 come on, it's was a logical assumption that he's of direct african decent. France has a fairly sizable population of African immigrants.

  • @Juniversal Same boat as you.

  • @Blastaar7...lol I know right? It's a shame. But another black comic artist is Ryan Benjamin. I didn't even know he was black until the past few years when I stumbled across his deviant art page. I loved his Grifter work and it was pretty cool to find out he was black.

I'm black myself and always wanted to get into comics when I was younger so it's cool to see folks who realized the dream (but don't get me wrong I appreciate ALL talented artist race notwithstanding lol).

  • my favorite artist! nobody color he is amazing!

  • how pathetic is it that people see ONE black comic artist and the klansmen come out from their caves. Coipel is not the first black artist to work in comics. Dwayne McDuffee (RIP) is considered by a huge amount of people to be very important to comics.

  • @seqartmark He's not indian.

  • @ClutchModeEngaged practically every channel is WET, thats why they originally came up with a BET. Back in the 90's the nbc's and abc's had their sitcoms that were completely culturally one sided, so fox tv started doing sitcoms from a more ethnic pov (Martin, living single, new york undercover.) Guess which got more ratings. It's also apparent that you are quite ignorant if you honestly think "black people tend to be the most racist ethnic group."

  • @Mena2317 i think they decieded to rename that station to Fox News......

  • @namelessronin - African Frenchman?? Did you just make that up? He was born and raised in France. Both his parents are from the Caribbean. He's not African.
