In many conservative Indian families, widows are seen as a liability. Cast out of the family home, they live the rest of their lives in poverty and isolation.

"She becomes a zero and all her powers are lost", states Dr Giri, explaining how some women's status change when their husband dies. With no where else to go, thousands come to Vrindavan, city of widows. It was the childhood home of Hindu God, Krishna, who championed downtrodden women. "They come here in search of death", explains Dr Giri, in the hope they will have a better afterlife

  • "Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you." Exodus 20:12 - How frightening and dark is a religion that treats cows better than mothers and sisters?

  • @fwd079 The senior homes and ALF's are far better in infrastructure and over all program performance. India needs to do better and they can do better, obviously this video is trying to increase awareness so that people can do something about it.

  • @diabolikalmistry if that is the case then there is nothing or no one to stop those happy families in India from making videos to show how they treat their seniors. Obviously, these happy families are fare and few in between and are not having an impact in the larger scheme of things. So, let us just look at it for what it is. The video was created to bring attention to the issue so that awareness in India and globally can be increased.

  • @kifagi Indeed, how sickening are old homes in USA. :P

  • @GodsSovereignGrace Indeed, shame on all old homes in West. How dark! :P

  • @caitlinisreggaegirl Best part is, people in subcontinent are waking up and shunning such practices, as shown in last part of video things are getting better. They don't shy away from problems, they solve it. Unlike EU they *do not* cover up for child rapes from priests. :P

  • @GodsSovereignGrace You will find wide variety of subcultures within different community. It does not represent hinduism, the indian culture. These are social problems that stem from poverty, lack of education rather than religion. Before you criticize others, people take your time understanding the world.

  • what is wrong wit u ppl

  • Get it straight...We do not interfere with ur religion nor do we EVER comment on issues related to it. Such as ur priests involved in sex-scandals with under age kids....STOP pretending to care for my people...We r very much capable of fixing our problems. We have resources, will and focus. We DON'T NEED YOU. Get lost.

  • Listen u jerks, I am a Hindu and a widow in my family is just treated like everyone else in family. NOT forced to give up anything, neither her job, nor prospects of re-marriage. STOP spreading canards or we'll come whoop ur stinky ass hiding in Australia/UK/Europe.

  • These are VERY OLD practices NON-existent in today's mainstream Hinduism and Hindus. This journeyman pictures is run by missionary funded rascals on a mission to malign Hindu religion. This subtle process is part of their larger agenda to convert downtrodden poor Hindu masses to their so called superior religion of Christ...
