when an alkalizing material hits the stomach the stomach will secrete hydrochloric acid. when this happens the body secretes sodium bicarb in the blood thus changing the ph of the blood

Hydrochloric acid is present in the stomach primarily when digesting food. When the stomach is empty, only a small amount of acid is present and this can be easily overcome when drinking alkaline ionized water.
Maximum benefit can be obtained by drinking the water between meals and it will pass quickly through the stomach and GI tract.
