I learnt this Scottish song after seeing the fantastic Breabach ( http://www.breabach.com/ ) playing it at their local concert. It was written by Glaswegian Matt McGinn.

I'm not much of a singer, but it's a beautiful song and I wanted to record it. I would normally play it in E, which is more my range, but I had trouble doing the violin counter melody in E, so I recorded it in G, which is a bit more of a stretch for my untrained voice. I recommend you go and get Breabach's album The Big Spree to hear a fantastic version, voiced by the superb Ewan Robertson.

The guitar's tuned in DADGAD with a capo at the 5th fret.

  • Im sorry but this is pretty rubish , my friend you can sing but this is a scottish song , you need to feel it .

  • @chris18152 Do Scottish songs require more feeling than any other sort of song, then?

  • needs more cowbell :)

Nah, top work though, by golly the chap can sing. Git :|

  • hehe, yes, definitely needs more cowbell...

It's a shame I couldn't manage to get the violin harmony in E, coz in G I'm straining a bit on those high notes... I would have helped if I could remember the words too and didn't have to keep reading them. Ah well.. live and learn.

  • dave this is great - you can sing!

  • Great!

  • You have a great singing voice Dave, do not be putting yourself down. As professionalreader says, I like the eye action at the end. Have you been watching those kids on the Cadbury advert?

  • Brilliant Dave!!!
