Once you understand the general concepts of mixing instruments in Pro Tools, you can focus on adding EQ to specific instruments. Every snare drum will sound different and there are many techniques to EQ each one. Here are some suggestions for making your snare sound crisper with more presence.
First, select the snare drum track in the mix window. Set up an EQ by clicking on an empty box under Inserts and selecting multichannel plug-in--EQ--EQ 7-Band.
Sometimes the snare drum will have a ring to. You can start off by cutting out the low frequencies with a high-pass filter.
Go to the HPF control box and turn it on by clicking IN. Start the Q at 24. Then turn the Frequency knob, which adjusts the turning point for the slope. Place this slope where you want to cut off the low frequencies.
After cutting out the low end, you may want to add more warmth to the snare drum. Bring in warmth by using the LF controls to boost up the frequencies in the 100 to 150 Hz range. Start off with the Frequency at about 150, then boost the Gain to about 60. Sweep the Frequency to the right until you find the warmth area. Raise it up if you like the sound and make sure to test it in comparison to the rest of the mix.
Now go to the 250 kHz area to add some depth to your snare drum. This can be especially helpful if the drum is weak or lacking. Using the LMF controls, raise the Gain and sweep across to find the frequencies that you want to boost or cut out. In some cases the depth may be acceptable as it is.
If your snare drum sounds too "boxy," go to the frequency range between 800 Hz to 1 kHz to take out some of the ring. Using the HMF controls, start at about 700 Hz and sweep to the right to locate the frequency that's causing the "boxiness." It's important to use your ears to hear the exact spot. When you find it, carve the Gain down to make the frequency less present.
Finally, you can bring in more "attack" to the snare drum by boosting up the high end. Go to the area between 3 to 5 kHz and use the HF controls. It may help to use the high-shelf function , which is the button with a high and low point on the right side. Try starting the Frequency at about 2 kHz and sweeping it over to find the frequency that will bring in the "crispiness" and "attack" you want.
Always compare your changes to the original version. Click the Compare button to return to the flat graph you started with. Then click it again to bring back your changes.

Get some kind of Frequency Analysis Tool to see & identify that ringing. Use more Gain and narrow the Q when sweeping, this makes the ringing tone more audible. This way you can save a bunch of time :-)
