Her ornament at 1:54 ... wow! Von Stade is still my favorite in this role - she gets the character best - and Bartoli probably has the best "Non piu mesta" when it comes to pyrotechnics, but Larmore's rendition is brilliant as well. (Ditto for diDonato and Berganza.)

Yeah! really beautiful! I still have Berganza as my favourite, but Bartoli and Larmore are pretty close!

Have you watched the film version directed by Jean Pierre-Ponelle and starring Frederica von Stade? I admit, it rather spoiled me for all other versions of the opera.

I've watched some exerpts, personally, I don't like film-operas, but yes, von Stade is a great one too!

Ah yes, I know other people who don't like opera films, but many of them say this one is an exception. Maybe it would be for you too. There certainly isn't another Cenerentola like it on DVD (or CD)!

Yes! True! Jennifer is one of the best coloratura mezzos ever. No doubt about that! And yes! I agree she is one of the best Cenerentolas.

Unlike the person who rated this before me, I think this is great. I love this "smoky" velevety mezzo voice that is also amazingly agile.

@nclysander The part that always used to amaze me (this was over ten years ago and I was brand-new to opera then) was the coloratura passage directly after that where everything comes out seamlessly connected, and apparently all in one breath! I would listen to that part over and over again.

@nclysander von Stade is probably my favorite mezzo, but I find that, especially in "non piu mesta", that her voice is just too big for it. I don't know - something about it.

Larmore's Non Piu Mesta is even better than the current Elina Garanca who sings Cenerentola. Larmore has great mezzo-coloratura technique. I've loved all her roles.
