Yes. The applications says, "I understand that if I reach the final stage of selection I may be invited to attend a short selection workshop, for which there might be a charge." The few who make it to that selection week are no doubt extremely skilled or they wouldn't be there but this is how they make the final selection. Intense. You basically have to wait until this selection in September before your program begins in January to know if you're in.

what kind of showreel do they look for in nfts, what level of quality?

Not sure what you're asking. Do you mean as a prospective student? The film you're watching here was shot by me as a summer documentary film intensive student. What you're watching is prospective NFTS cinematography MA students competing for a week to see which ones of them will be accepted. The people I met in the programs there love the work, love the school, and are doing amazing things. NFTS graduates have done amazing things in the world. What level of quality? Your very best! :-)

its not like a normal uni then, are on the Documentary Direction MA or some other course? Im currently at College and my dream to become a cinematographer is to learn at the NFTS. I dont know if you can know but could you recommend me a university degree that would help me devlop a showreel worthy for a application at NFTS? I was thinking about courses around Film Production or Photography?

How about making an appointment with the director of admission and a couple of the faculty and spend some time there asking them what they'd recommend and making sure that the program still seems like your dream.

im thinking about entry in that school in sound desing im in a school taking audiovisuals but i want to go to nfts because i have listen opinions about and everybody say its a very good school im portuguese and i hope i can go study there

For the cinematography course technical skill isn't the most important. Imagination and being able to tell a story with images is. They aren't looking for technical masters. If you don't get in first time, apply again. Get as much on set experience as you can before going so you know the ropes. Talent of course is important, but you don't need technical mastery to show you are talented so don't worry too much about that. Develop your own voice, be cinematic, be creative

I'm applying for the NFTS this year for the cinematography course which I cannot wait to submit my showreel for, had loads of experience film making as im in my final year of film studies specialising in cinematography, just hope i can make the grade! Looks interesting though, would love to get involved

im studying fine arts, and the cinematography course at nfts is kind of my dream too. im already preparing a showreel, but i need to learn more abour filmmaking in order to develop something good enough to apply at nfts. can u help me out with some tips please? is it common to ask for an appointment with the director of admission? how long does the cinematography course take? do u know anything about the production design course? cause i really like it too.
