How to clear the fault memory from a 1999 Toyota Corolla Diesel, by using a bridge wire between TE1 and E1 on the diagnostics port and removing a fuse for 10 seconds. You can verify the memory is clear by leaving the bridge wire in place and observing the engine management light - it should flash constantly indicating a clear memory.

  • what does clearing the fault memory do? Just bought a 1999 corolla ...

  • @axxxxxorxxxxxa Fault codes are recorded to assist with fault finding. Some codes may be transient, or bogus (say a sensor was disconnected and reconnected during servicing). Often, during fault finding, a first step is to note down all fault codes present, then to clear them. Once cleared, the vehicle is driven and the ECU is interrogated to see if the fault codes have returned. When problems are solved with the vehicle, it is good practice to clear all the related fault codes from the memory.

  • Which fuse depends on the exact model of car. In our case it was the EFI/F-HTR fuse, which is a 15 amp fuse. An alternative way to do it is to disconnect the battery for about 10 seconds. Remember - make sure you have radio code when disconnecting.
