A sea of jubilant Sri Lankans flooded the streets in procession to reach Parliament Grounds of the war heroes felicitation ceremony. They joined in saluting the soldiers, braving the inclement weather.
............................................... The procession commenced from Campbell Park in Colombo at 12 noon. It was scheduled to reach the Parliament Grounds at 2.00 p.m. But crowds were still marching towards the venue even after the rally drew to an end. This is the first time in history that such a large crowd converged at the Parliament Grounds. The war heroes tribute ceremony was presided by unflinching leader and Commander in Chief, President Rajapakse, who arrived at the venue to a tumultuous welcome. Parliamentarians, Provincial Chief Ministers, Provincial representatives, artistes, the veddah community and family members of Ranaviru families were among the large gathering present. A notable feature was a donation of 1.5 million rupees made by a mother who had collected it since she was 12 years old.
