This is my 1971 Mercedes 280S (W108) with a Mercedes diesel OM617.910 ("300D") and 5-speed manual transmission. Idling right after startup, temperature outside is -3°C/26°F. After about 15 seconds of glowing and 5 seconds cranking, the car started on 4 cylinders and the last one joined the choir a few seconds later. Idles good with idle adjusted to highest possible. Audio sucks and does not do justice to the real thing, the screaming belt sounds much less in reality.

  • Google for "fat franz" and you'll find my blog that has tons of pictures of both cars, including engine mount setup. Have used two approaches, since it's a hack job neither one is more correct than the other, do as you like and good luck :)

  • Hi,

you emailed me ages ago about my OM617 into 108 project. Finally found an engine to replace the one that died 3 days after the conversion. Can I see what sort of set-up you've got for the engine mounts and any other vibration absorption? Would love to hear all the other details of your putting-diesels-where-they-don't-belong projects so far.

    Tak
