Self-Knowledge is the knowledge of the Knower, the non-changing, non-dual conscious witness which is the essential nature of all that there is. Such Knowledge is not of an object, but of the Subject itself. In a dialog between a teacher Knower of Brahman (the Whole) and a disciple seeking Knowledge in terms of freedom from limitation, when he said "I understand" the teacher replied, "If you say you understand then you don't understand." The fit student then responded, "But I Understand!" and the teacher knew he did.

  • jorge,

Thanks very much. Just one clarification. I and you (Ring and chain) are both attributes of Ishvara (gold) correct?. If so, why say 'the self is aananda?'. Ishvara is ananda while my self is attribute of the one. Ishvara is the substance of which I and you are both made of. My self I already know. I come to understand only that I and the world and all others are all attributes of Ishvara. Please validate.
