Kirtan - Bhai Lall Ji & Jatha. Bhai Lall Ji is the actual 17th generation muslim descendant of Bhai Mardana Ji (1459-1534). Bhai Mardana Ji was a follower and travelling companion of the Sikh founder Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaaj. He was with Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaaj in all of his journeys across India and Asia, which was for around fifty-four years. Bhai Mardana Ji used to play the string instrument, the Rabab, while Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaaj would sing shahads, paath etc. Some of Bhai Mardana Ji's shabads are in Sri Guru Granth Saihb Ji. The very first raagi acknowleged in Sikh history was Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaajs trusted friend and companion, Bhai Mardana Ji.

Bhai Lall Ji (sitting on the middle vaja) is a very knowledgeable muslim on Sikhism. He knows most of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji by heart. His father was the Hazoori Ragi at Goindwal Sahib. Bhai Lal ji is devoted to the kirtan traditions of Gurmat Sangeet. In the video his brother, Bhai Irshad and cousin are accompaning him. The video was taken in Southall, London, United Kingdom in the 1970s.

@Unokatro define a true sikh, tell me how to recognise him/her, what is the standard of a true sikh? A true Sikh is perfect - should only those who are perfectly free of sin be able to do gurbani kirtan for a congregation in which there may be sinners?

i remember hearing these guys live during that tour of the UK.

there is now some controversy over his claimed lineage (descendant of Bhai Mardana). Frankly I couldn't give a damn.

At one program he said (in Panjabi) " through the use of Parmaans, i will give you darshan of Guru Nanak Sahib". He proceeded to recite the story of Guru Nanak Dev Jis travels (phir Baba gaya Baghdad noo). I swear that I felt his presence. it was undoubtedly the most uplifting Kirtan I have ever heard.
