HMS Surprise in the hands of the Colonalists

This short video is the 1:24 scale model of HMS Surprise being sailed by us colonalists after taking her away from the POMES. The shots of the ship with the royals set were taken on 13 August and the rest were taken in higer winds of 31 August at Cedar Creek Lake near Stanford KY.

Several different sail configurations were tried. She seemed to sail best in the higher winds with her main course sail rigged and the main gallant struck and the fore course and gallant sheeted up. All of the stay sails in the sail locker were rigged.

It was difficult to keep up with her at times in a Bass Baby boat with a 3 HP Minnkota electric trolling motor.

@Strelnikov10 This 36 gun ship is 1:24 scale and Constitution is a 44 gun ship so if you build at this scale you are going to have a large model. It is the cost of the trailer to get it to the lake that makes the investment BIG but one has to play so I play big. Airborne

@formerparatrooper Yea, definitely not going as large as 1:24th scale. I want the overall project to be somewhere in the 5-6 foot range so it will fit in my truck.

beautiful model I am a huge fan of master and commander and 18th century naval history. does she have working guns because theres another video where a similar model fires broadsides.

@KrazyKommieKiller Yeh, I know! I have the book. I just like flying my nations flag and being a former paratrooper I fly it a lot.

Ironic because in the book she fought tooth and nail with the very much American privateer ship Acheron.
