sphinx20060@bbmello1 There used to be all sorts of independent gas stations and a whole lot more automakers many years ago too. They went the way of the dinosaur too as they could not compete with chains and the economies of scale. The small pharmacies will likely suffer the same fate and end up in the scrap heap of history---so what. Remember its the consumer that is buying at the chains and there is a reason for it. But what do I know, I am just an ignorant consumer according to you

sphinx20060@bbmello1 Well I understand that I am financing through taxes pharmacies that are saying they cannot survive without a government handout. The truth of the matter is there is just not enough tax money to go around and Services will be cut. There is absolutely no reason in the world for us to have the type of system we currently have as we cannot afford it.

Why don't they legislate on the corporate pharmacies?

Because they want the independent pharmacies to fail. Big corporations and Big government go hand in hand.

Kind of sad the government underfunds their insurance plan and expects to legislate against private businesses to compensate for their own incompetency. The government will still collect taxes at a rate as though the government was helping to fund the rebates - all the while force pharmacies to charge you for services that you've already paid for but the government cut.

@sphinx20060 You don't seem to understand what is at stake here. Talk all you like about shoppers drug mart, but in reality they are the only ones that will be relatively unnaffected by these cuts. It is the small independent pharmacies, who don't sell TV dinners and school supplies, that will not be able to survive this cuts. It really does sadden me to see that people can be as ignorant as yourself, I hope that you figure out the facts before you make assumptions.

Kind of sad using this senior citizen to defend the pharmacy monopoly on drugs. The whole defense is based around community services that are not legislated and are optional on the part of the drug stores anyway. And there always seems to be another Shoppers Drug Mart complex opening, another brand new store somewhere, who is paying----the taxpayer. Follow through with the cuts, the party is over.
