When long range armaments fail, modern fighter pilots must resort to dog fighting tactics using only cannons and sidewinders. This close range combat isn't about speed, speed means you are running -- leaving bogies on your tail. It's about power, the kind that makes the aircraft stand on its head and stay in control. It's also about the skill of the pilot. About deftly passing through your opponent's blind spots and assuming advantageous positions of power. Always predicting and anticipating your opponent's next move. These relatively slow but nimble tactics -- the proverbial 'knife fight in a telephone booth' is what dog fighting is all about.
The DogFighter combat simulation system is a modular product designed to give RC pilots a taste of air to air combat. The DogFighter uses IR transmitters and receivers to simulate weapons used in aerial combat. Modular system components are available individually so that users can design a system that complements their aircraft and desired objectives. A great way to use the system is dog fighting between two or more FPV aircraft; however the system was designed to work in many different ways. One FPV aircraft hunting ground targets, FPV aircraft chasing a non-FPV target aircraft and multiple non-FPV aircraft dog fighting each other are all possible with the DogFighter system.
The controller is designed to optionally integrate with the ForceFly system and gyro board. This setup gives the pilot the feel of the plane shuddering when the weapons are fired as well as the feel of being hit by an opponent's weapons. The advantages of connecting to the ForceFly don't stop there. By downloading the new ForceFly Combat firmware the system maintains stats on how many hits are received and which players (up to four) made the hits. The Combat firmware also gives extended control using joysticks like the Logitech G940 such as easy player setup, weapons selection, afterburners and airbrakes to stay on top of a bogy.
Without the ForceFly it is still possible to raise the stakes of combat using the optional Combat Effects module piggybacked on the DogFighter Controller. The effects module can be placed in-line with a servo to cause the plane to shudder when being hit.
