Giant Pacific Octopus Opens His Gifts Early!

Christmas came a little early for the Giant Pacific Octopus at SEA LIFE Aquarium - he got to open his first presents today. A festive box full of clams and shrimp may not be what your little ones ask for this holiday season, but it made this octopus very happy. The gifts were part of the octopus enrichment program at SEA LIFE where toys and puzzles are used to simulate the hunting skills the octopus would use in its natural environment.

He's probably thinking to himself"i know what this is, yaya merry christmas to me" Oh, how does a octopus know what's in the box, can he smell from the outside of it? or is there anotherway he knows. Also, how do you tell if their male or female?

The octopus knows whats in the box b/c he uses his senses to taste the food on and inside the box. He uses all those suction cups as tiny tongues to taste the food. He has the ability to solve puzzles and is driven by his hunger so he is always willing to check things out. The males have a modified 3rd right arm that is missing suction cups at the tip. The female doesnt have any modified arms.
