On July 8 the additional infantry unit ESTCOY-E, which was sent to Afghanistan to help secure the August presidential election, departed for Afghanistan. The company was seen off by Minister of Defense Jaak Aaviksoo, U.S. Embassy Chargé d'Affaires ad interim Karen B. Decker and the Chief of the Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Ants Laaneots. The 134-strong company will be serving under the command of the 2nd brigade of the U.S. Marines and its operation area will be the southern part of Helmand province in the south of Afghanistan. One third of the soldiers, among them company commander Captain Ain Tiidrus, have previous mission experience.
