June 14th is the anniversary of the creation of my alma mater, the United States Army! The U.S. Army is the most powerful fighting force in history, and the bedrock upon which America came to life.

From George Washington to David Petraeus, the Army has answered the Nation's call without fail since 1775, and it is the guardian of America's best values and traditions. It was the honor of a lifetime for me to serve as an American Soldier, and to be allowed the privilege of wearing my Country's uniform. Hopefully that pride is reflected by this video.

The music comes from the movies "Patton" and "MacArthur", and it is performed by Jerry Goldsmith and the Philharmonia Orchestra. The historical Army figures shown in the video are:

1.- George Washington, Commanding General of the Continental Army and 1st President of the United States.

2.- General Winfield Scott, who served under every U.S. President from Thomas Jefferson to Abraham Lincoln.

3.- General Zachary Taylor served very effectively in the Mexican-American War, and was eventually elected to be the 12th President of the United States.

4.- Ulysses S. Grant, Commanding General of the Union Army during the Civil War, who later became the 18th President of the United States.

5.- William Tecumseh Sherman was a Union General during the Civil War. He commanded successful armies in the West and the South, and many military historians consider him to be the first modern military strategist.

6.- Colonel Theodore Roosevelt, who served in Cuba during the Spanish-American War. Roosevelt later became the 26th President of the United States, and the first American to ever receive a Nobel Peace Prize. He is the first U.S. President to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.

7.- John Pershing, Commanding General of the American Expeditionary Forces that fought in Europe during World War I. The only person to be promoted in his own lifetime to the highest rank ever held in the U. S. Army—General of the Armies, junior only to George Washington.

8.- General George S. Patton. Under his leadership during World War II, the U.S. Third Army advanced farther, captured more enemy prisoners, and liberated more territory in less time than any other army in military history.

9.- General Douglas MacArthur, one of only five men to reach five-star rank during World War II. He was the son of a Medal of Honor recipient, and he received the Medal of Honor for his gallant service in the Philippines Campaign.

10.- General Dwight D. Eisenhower, the five-star Supreme Allied Commander in Europe during World War II, and the first Supreme Commander under NATO. Eisenhower later became the 34th President of the United States.

11.- Major Richard "Dick" Winters, the 101st Airborne Division officer who served in and commanded Easy Company during D-Day and the Siege of Bastogne in World War II. His experiences inspired the HBO original series "Band of Brothers".

12.- General Creighton Abrams was an armored battalion commander under General Patton during World War II. He commanded all Army forces in Vietnam for a time during that war, and later became Army Chief of Staff. General George Patton said of him: "I'm supposed to be the best tank commander in the Army, but I have one peer — Abe Abrams. He's the world champion."

13.- General H. Norman Schwarzkopf commanded the Coalition Forces in the Persian Gulf War of 1991. He was a battalion commander in Vietnam, and as a Major General he was the second in command during the invasion of Grenada. One of my all-time favorite quotes comes from him: "When placed in command, take charge."

14.- Colin Powell, first African-American General to serve as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the 65th U.S. Secretary of State. General Powell also served as National Security Advisor to President Ronald Reagan.

15.- David Petraeus, former Commanding General of the 101st Airborne Division, Combatant Commander of Central Command, and current Commanding General of all American forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. President Obama has appointed General Petraeus to direct the Central Intelligence Agency, and he is awaiting confirmation by the U.S. Senate.

16.- Staff Sergeant Salvatore Giunta, the first living recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor since the Vietnam War, for his brave and gallant actions in Afghanistan.

17.- Sergeant First Class Leroy Petry, the second living Congressional Medal of Honor recipient since the Vietnam War, for bravery in Afghanistan.

18.- Ann Elizabeth Dunwoody, the current Commanding General of the U.S. Army Materiel Command. General Dunwoody is the first woman in U.S. military history to achieve four-star rank, receiving her fourth star on 14 November 2008.
