    Lo fa perchè l'amante palesa l'intenzione di inviare la lettera che legge a tavola alla moglie di Giannini. Qui lui si rende conto di essere stato incauto. Oltretutto, a tavola, la giovane gli dà notizia di aver rotto con il suo fidanzato per Giannini.

    E' una sequenza bellissima perchè lui volutamente fa lo "stronzo" per fare in modo che le cose ritornino come primo, considerandosi al contempo effettivamente un imbecille.
