King Me (The Embodied Experience of Drag-Kinging)

This is my first attempt at video editing. Don't make fun :P

In one of my women's studies classes about the body and embodiment I was required to do a project/presentation on a topic of my choice that was some sort of embodied practice (essentially, something that had to do with the body - so anything really..lol). Anyway I chose drag kings.

I found a few lovely ladies and a wonderful trans guy friend of mine to interview about their experience in being drag kings. This is my finished product.

Sorry if i sound stupid, but is the first time i heard about this. The drag kings are girls that act as boys? I saw some videos and the boys look as real boys. The concept isn't as the drag queens, The queens look as a cartoon, the kings are so real. The english is not may own language, that's why i don't understand the video.

Yeah the concept is the same as drag queens. Drag performances are meant to be over the top, they're meant to play off of stereotypes and characteristics of feminity and masculinity of gender and make fun of it.

I am obsessed with drag kings as of recently. I'm too young to get into clubs and do performances but ever since I found out what a drag king was I wanted to be one. I'm straight, I don't want to be a man or a lesbian but I love everything about pretending to be a dude. This video was really excellent I hope you do do others!!!

Hi Reighleigh, I just wanted to add a bit more info to your analogy...My partner is a Male Illusionist in Mo. I kind of agree with the statement Drag is 'over the top', in general this is true. But for my partner it is much more than just playing off or making fun of stereotypes, it is an extension of her, allowing her to personify the masculin within....getting in touch with that has empowered her in everyday life....thank so much for this video....i look forward to more
