"Help Us Find Some Common Ground" is a song that really rocks! It has a positive message which is being well received by level-headed, practically-minded people who want to move their country forward instead of moving backward. While in reality, I wrote this song for people everywhere, it was, in fact, inspired by the critical need in the United States to move away from the extreme polarization that now exists and to direct thinking back toward middle ground. The negativity, finger-pointing and outright fighting is out of control and we will all end up losers because of this. As you know, polarization leads to paralization. We see the effects of this all too often with our elected leaders and the media. It's perfectly appropriate to disagree. But, at some point, we have to stop pointing fingers and making accusations and find a way to move forward. The concept of comprise is perfectly appropriate, and even more so for the times we are living in now. We cannot allow ourselves to become paralyzed. As history shows time and again, if we focus on the commonalities which bind us together not only as citizens, but as a people, we can put our differences aside, find the strength we need to bend instead of breaking, and work together to solve problems for the common good.
