@lisarenee3505 Secondly I am a student physical therapist assistant and am learning a lot. Places like this are great because it helps a person be proactive, even at the expense of thousands of dollars. One of the most important muscles is the human heart and even if a little movement in the body is accomplished the heart is being even more affected. Joni Earekson Tada is a great example of what Jesus can do by changing the heart which then changes the whole body. Faith in Jesus is hope.

@lisarenee3505 Firstly the definition of disablement is greatly misunderstood. Disablement is something we have not something we are. We are disabled when we are unable to participate in a particular activity such as brushing the teeth. We have a functional limitation may be we can't lift our arm high enough to complete the task. The Impairment is the reason we don't do brush which may be pain and the Pathology is the reason for the pain. That is to say you are not disabled but have a disability

@lisarenee3505 I couldn't disagree more. Exercise CAN make new nerve connections. I have been fighting a degenerative spinal cord disease, focused on my entire C-spine, for almost 25 years. I work out vigorously and regularly, and, although I require 2 WalkAides and a cane, I am still walking and driving. I went to PT for many years, but now I go to a regular gym, using my PT's "prescribed" exercises. Exercise can only be beneficial. I believe its never too late to start. I wish you well.

i think your program is great !!!!!! you must keep your joints moving so they dont get frozen, it gives these young people emotional, mentally and physical uplifting rewards. Yes they may not walk, but it helps them to have their bodies moved and shifted. It gives them good upper body strength!!!!! thank you for the great work your facility does in helping these people. GOD BLESS YOU ALL !!!!!!

I'm a C-6 incomplete. The most important time of recovery is during the acute phase- the first 3 months or so; intensive, daily therapy then is essential. Recovery for some injuries (mine included) may continue for another 2 years or more, but slow down. This kind of exercise is as much maintenance as anything, but definitely worth it.

I did my injury on 21-8 -2009 and I walked out of Auckland Spinal Unit on 5-11-2009 with still along way to go yet. ONLY GIVE 100%

As a disabled person, let me say that people who spend Years going to rehab places like this, 4-6 times a week for several hours (and several thousand dollard) each session are fooling themselves. The best average result I have ever seen from one of these places is some increased movement, but rarely anything even remotely close to real recovery. Save your money and spend your time working on getting on with your life, get a career, and stop trying to regain something that's gone forever.

When our facility first opened,management decided to incorporate the word "recovery" into what we do. As trainers, we argued against using the term as it gave false hope. That being said, I can say without a doubt that every single person who has been to our facility, has left better than when they came in. We are not saying "come to Pressing On and you will magically walk" I can only dream we had that ability. That being said, we have had people literally walk out of here.

you can see the relationship inbetween the trainer and the patient they start off with just another person and you build a friendship and trust, thats one of the biggest reasons why people succeed in life she made amazing progress : )

Thanks for the comment. As one of the trainers, I couldn't agree more. Our sessions last 2 hour and clients come in anywhere from 2-5 times a week, so we do develop a close relationship with them. It's like having a huge extended family! :) -jason
