The first image in the video is of Horatio Spafford and the second of his wife, Anna. Many are familiar with the story that inspired this hymn, of how all four of the Spafford daughters died in a shipwreck with only their mother surviving, and of the telegram of the loss with Mrs. Spafford's words that she was "saved alone." The Spaffords eventually moved to Jerusalem to establish "The American Colony," a Christian utopian society which is credited with many good works. Unfortunately, the nearly unbearable trials that Mr. Spafford did bear eventually lead to mental illness. Out of such tragedy came this great hymn.
There will be times when it will not be well with our soul, no matter how strong of a Christian we strive to be. Thankfully when we are weak, our Savior is strong. I'm sure God, who loved Horatio Spaffford as His dear child, loved him still even though ill and broken in mind. Take comfort in that we have a God who understands our weaknesses.
This is from Lindsy Morton's "Acoustic Hymns" CD.
I love this song and am thankful that God put it on your heart to put it on youtube. God is amazing.
