Eileen Dunn, R.N., informs the town hall meeting that gathered on April 30, 2010, at Hudson Guild in Chelsea, that after nurses had been laid off as a result of the bankruptcy and closing of St. Vincent's Hospital, nurses who tried to apply online for unemployment wages were denied their benefits. Now, questions have been raised about the hospital's filing of its quarterly payments to the New York State Department of Labor.
As has been reported by NY1, at the time that the Board of Trustees voted to close the hospital, St. Vincent's, with 400 inpatient beds, was employing 3,500 people and was providing life-saving treatments in its emergency room to about 60,000 patients per year. (Part 2 of a series of videos.)

Very few people have the courage and dedication you have for your bargaining unit members and your community.
I so admire you and the dedication you have shown to protect the lower west side.

This has been a tragic and puzzling disaster. How the past presidents could bring in consultants at high fees, and mismanage the hospitals funds with the knowledge and consent of the board of trustees is just beyond my understanding. G. Natwin, a veteran LCSW worked at SVH 38 years. Now my colleagues are dispersed all over the city. I have lost contact because of the speed and disregard for patients which has been allowed. G.N.
