  • Might ought to put some wood chips for mulch on top of that grow bed. Just a thought. Look like you have enough trees around to do that for just a little bit of you own labor.

  • @MrMadmax478 Wouldn't you know, I had a friend give me 2 garbage bags full of oak shavings from his plainer. As soon as my strawberry plants come in, I will put the rest of my goodies in the soil mix then put in the strawberries. Thanks for the tip!

  • What the heck would you need black soldier flies for?

  • @SpiritTracker7 They will compost down old plants quickly, and make good fish food. They also attract good bug predators like birds and here lizards.

  • Good Job Mart, but I am pretty sure this can't be reproduced where I am at right now. Man, I miss gardening already... I love this wicking garden bed, I need some Aloe as well.

  • @SpiritTracker7 Ya, this was a gamble but it looks like it sure paid off. Targeting strawberries in the spring.

  • @marthale7 Have a look at my video on siphons. Bet you will figure out how to hook a drain to your rain barrel. Bet a loop siphon would be the cheapest way to go.

  • @Helioforge Ya, when I lived up in Indiana I would dig them up and find them that way. I bet they are just conserving moisture, and keeping warm that way. When the moisture went down in my large worm bin outside, I found them in 1/2 cup size balls. Will be taking notes on your strawberry patch, as that is what I plan to do with this bed coming April. Cheers!

  • great tips thanks 4 sharing

  • When I dug the strawberry patch, there were lots of worms curled up like little basketballs, and tied into the most intricate knots! Crazy dormant worms : )
