Please don't punish the dogs and cats for the underfunding and hence understaffing of the BARC-City of Houston Animal Shelter. This is the City Dog Pound, a very high kill pet shelter, and is is drastically underfunded. It is even MORE important to adopt from BARC as these pets have less of a chance at life. Please bear with the issues you have encountered, share your dissatisfaction to your City Council person with the message to increase funding to appropriately staff the shelter.

I feel bad for the dogs, but I have to drive 60 miles to go to court because they claim I never got the animal fixed. They paid the vet after it was fixed, yet claim it was never fixed. Adopt if you want a hassle, but there are other agencies out there. Also, check out the Houston Chronicle-- they have a history of abusing animals.

Adopting from them is a real headache. They paid to have the cat fixed, they could not find the paperwork, so they sent me a ticket! Now I have to take time off from work to deal with their screw up. BEWARE OF ADOPTING FROM THEM!
